“ ‘Celtic’ Crosses and the Myth of Whiteness” (2019)
This short essay discusses how the symbolism of the ringed Irish cross has been mis-used in the service of modern racist agendas. The book includes many excellent articles, and there is a great companion website here.
Icons of Irishness from the Middle Ages to the Modern World (2012)
My book considers how images of ringed crosses have been used to signify cultural identity in both the medieval period and the modern world. The book doesn’t discuss the white supremacist version of the “Celtic” cross, and in retrospect, that was a serious oversight.
